Who is this course for?

This course is open to individuals aged 14 years to adults . No prior qualifications are required, but participants should be able to read, write, conduct and understand basic research. Most of our students choose our alternative education setting because they prefer smaller class sizes and a more relaxed, informal learning environment. Many are home educated or find it challenging to thrive in a traditional classroom setting, so our approach provides a supportive space tailored to their individual needs.

For secondary school students aged 12 and over who want to study outside of school hours and earn a qualification before college, we offer the NVQ Level 2 Animal Care course. You can find out more about the course here.

What qualification can I gain?

Certificate offers a more comprehensive introduction to animal care or horticulture, It comprises a mandatory unit - safe and effective working parctives in land based inductries and three option units in either animal care or horticulture, requires about 150 guided learning hours, totaling approximately 300 qualification hours. This qualification is beneficial for those aiming to work in animal shelters, pet shops, farms or pursue further study.

What is involved in passing this qualification?

The course combines practical, hands-on animal care with classroom-based learning to provide a well-rounded educational experience.

Instead of lots of written exams, you’ll build a portfolio of evidence showing your skills. This will be a mixture of observation when doing animal care tasks and written work.

What are the costs?

All of our courses are self-funded, meaning grants are not available. For this reason, we charge per lesson rather than charging for the full academic year, as many colleges do. The cost is £ 50 per day. As a general guide, students attend lessons once or twice a week during term time. The number of weeks you attend will vary depending on the course level and your individual learning needs. There is also a fee to enrol with City & Guilds for your certification.

Award: Average time taken to complete the qualification is 20 lessons plus learning at home.

Certificate: Average time taken to complete the qualification 40 lessons plus learning at home.

Our weekday courses begin on specific dates throughout the year, not all of which start in September. Please get in touch with us to find out when the next course is starting.
